Toddler beds for the move out of the cot

A toddler bed is the step between a cot and a full-size bed: low enough for your child to climb in and out on their own and familiar enough to make the transition feel easy.

Why choose CuddleCo toddler and single beds?

  • Low-level toddler beds that encourage independence and suit smaller rooms
  • Co-ordinated finishes from cot to toddler bed to single bed
  • Timeless styles in white, cashmere and ash, or playful Play House pebble
  • Integrated storage options to keep spaces tidy
  • Tested to UK and European safety standards

Single beds from age four

When your child outgrows the toddler bed, the Clara Single Bed carries the same curved detailing into a full 190 x 90 cm single, in Cashmere & Ash or White & Ash. The Play House Single Bed with Storage adds a pitched-roof headboard with built-in storage and matches the Play House desks, bookcases and toy storage.

Already have a CuddleCo cot bed? It converts into a toddler bed

Every CuddleCo cot bed is designed to become a toddler bed: when your child is ready, usually between 18 months and three years, the side rails come off and the cot bed becomes a low bed in the same frame, with the same mattress, in the same familiar room. Our step-by-step guide shows how.

So if you own a Clara, Luna, Burford, Beaumont or Freya cot bed you do not need to buy a toddler bed. The Clara Toddler Bed is for families moving on from a standard cot, including the Clara Mini, or who want a second toddler bed for a sibling or grandparents' house.

Frequently asked questions

What age is a toddler bed for?

There’s no set age for moving your child into a toddler bed, but many children make the transition between around 18 months and 3 years old. The right time depends on your child and whether they’re showing signs that they’re ready.

If your little one is starting to or trying to climb, out of their cot, has outgrown it or is ready for more independence, it may be time to consider a toddler bed. Always check the manufacturer’s recommended age and weight guidance for your specific bed.

What size is a toddler bed?

Toddler beds are smaller than a standard single bed, making them a comfortable and manageable size for young children, and a practical choice if space is of a premium. Our toddler beds are 158 x 82 cm and use a 140 x 70 cm mattress, although sizes can vary between manufacturers.

If you're choosing a toddler bed, always check the product dimensions and the recommended mattress size to make sure you have the right fit.

What mattress fits a toddler bed?

The mattress you need will depend on the size of the toddler bed. Our toddler beds take a 140 x 70 cm mattress, but dimensions can vary between models, so it’s important to check the manufacturer’s recommended mattress size before buying.

The mattress should fit the bed frame snugly, with no significant gaps around the edges. Always check the product specifications for your toddler bed to make sure you choose the correct mattress.

Do I need a toddler bed if I have a CuddleCo cot bed?

No! If you have a CuddleCo cot bed, you don’t need to buy a separate toddler bed. Our cot beds are designed to grow with your little one and can be converted from a cot into a toddler bed when they’re ready for the next stage.

Simply follow the conversion instructions for your specific cot bed to create a familiar, comfortable sleeping space for your toddler. It’s one of the benefits of choosing a cot bed, one piece of furniture that can grow with your child, helping you get more from your investment.

Toddler bed or single bed: which should I choose?

The right choice depends on your child, the space you have available and how long you’d like the bed to last. A toddler bed is smaller and can feel like a natural step from a cot, helping your little one adjust to sleeping independently. A single bed offers more room and can be used for many years, making it a practical long-term option.

If your child is moving from a cot bed, converting it into a toddler bed can be a great way to make the transition feel familiar and less overwhelming. When they’re ready for more space, you can then move to a single bed.

Is a toddler bed safe for a two-year-old?

A toddler bed can be suitable for a two-year-old but it depends entirely on your child and whether they are showing signs that they are ready. Toddler beds are designed specifically for younger children with a low-level design to encourage independence.

When choosing a toddler bed, check the recommended age and weight limits, make sure the mattress is the correct size and fits securely, and ensure the bed is positioned safely within the room. If you’re converting a cot bed, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for making the transition.

Do the beds come with a mattress?

Mattresses are not included with all of our beds, you’ll find the recommended mattress size and specifications on the product page, making it easy to choose the right fit for your bed. We sell mattresses for our Toddler beds, but not for our single beds, although these are widely available from other retailers.

Does the toddler bed match the Clara nursery furniture?

Yes! The Clara toddler bed is designed to complement the wider Clara nursery furniture collection, making it easy to create a coordinated look as your little one grows.

With its soft, timeless design and matching details, the toddler bed pairs beautifully with the Clara dresser, wardrobe and other furniture from the range. It’s a lovely way to keep the nursery feeling cohesive while creating a more grown-up space for your little one.
